Hobby Complex 07 - Monster Hunter Papercraft

monster-hunter-003

Sloooooow day today, not much papercrafts, here's a few pics of a Monster Hunter papercraft to ease the anxiety ^^

If any of you were lucky enough to be at last week's Hobby Complex 07 this is what was waiting for you - Monster Hunter: Yian Kut-Ku papercraft and barrel set - all for 1800 yen.

The Yian Kut-Ku is a boss monster and one of the smaller fire-breathing bird wyverns. They live in the jungle, forests, and swamps. They look like velociraptor with wings and flaps ^^.

This Monster Hunter papercraft was designed by CRAZY CRAFT, photos courtesy of our new friends at GA Graphic.

Fiat Loves Papercrafts

Fiat Loves PapercraftsFiat Argentina is promoting their mini XUV, the Fiat Idea Adventure, for the South American market with a cool print ad campagin featuring papercrafts. They make comparisons between the office, home, and filing room against the desert, jungle, and mountains - the whole point being its better to be outdoors (in a Fiat Idea Adventure of course) than indoors.

This fantastic creation was brought to life by the talented folks at LeoBurnett.com ad agency. I'll send a quick email to them and see if there's any chance for a pattern ^_^

I know the pics are a bit small, so here's what it says:
Office Vultures can be more dangerous than desert ones

A weekend at home can be more dangerous than one in the jungle

A day in filing room can be more dangerous than a day in the mountains

Killzone 2 Rewards You With Papercrafts

Killzone 2 Intruder PapercraftIt's official, Killzone 2 will be providing unlockable bonus content that would include papercrafts. Just read a post from the PlayStation blogs posted by Victor Zuylen (Killzone Community Editor), here's the best part:
If you’re good enough, you can even unlock and download physical objects from the Killzone universe. “That’s impossible,” I hear you cry at your monitor, “You can’t to download physical objects through the Internet – let alone objects from a fictional universe.” Ah, but then you’ve obviously never witnessed the venerable art of papercraft
That sweet paper model on the pic is the Intruder - a type of drop ship that's going to appear in the game. You can read the complete article here:

Scopedog Papercraft - Chokipeta

It's not a big secret here in the site that I'm a big fan of Chokipeta, I've been collecting his papercrafts for quite some time now and when I saw these photos it made me wish I had easy access to Japan. I saw the note on his web site last year (November) about him? showing up at the recent Super Festival 45 (January 6, 2008) in Tokyo - it's a hobby event featuring scale models and toys. But I forgot to post about it, anyways, follow the link below for detailed photos of Chokipeta's three new papercraft models taken by Joseph Tsai of Tokyo Hunter.

Thomas the Tank and Friends Papercraft

I've notice that this character is quite popular among kids and adults and I've seen stores stacked full of toys and other merchandise having this brand. So I looked around to see if anybody has built any Thomas the Tank papercraft and lo and behold, not only did I find Thomas, I also found some of his friends. But before that, well talk some more about him.

He originated from the United Kingdom and was the wonderful creation of Rev. Wilbert V. Awdry. The reverend came out with a children's book called "The Railway Series" back in 1945 (41 books in all) in which Thomas was based on. It covers the adventures of a group of trains and other transportation vehicles living on the Island of Sodor.

It was only until 1984 when Thomas' popularity picked up when Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, a British children's TV series was first broadcasted. To date, this TV series is still running strong (11th season) and has spawned numerous spin-offs. Also wanted to point out that in Thomas the Tank Engine, the word "tank engine" is also known as a steam engine. And the word "tank' by itself refers to a water tank not an armoured vehicle. If you want to know more interesting stuff about Thomas you can head on to his official web site.

Now for the paper models, this set was designed by Takahiro Kojima and can be found on his web site, Paper Model World. Includes papercrafts for Thomas the Tank Engine, James the Red Engine, Gordon the Big Engine, Bertie the Small Red Bus, and finally an Annie and Clarabel papercraft, this two are Thomas' coaches (carriage). You can also check out Mr. Kojima's other notable works which include a Back to the Future De Lorean papercraft, Porco Rosso's Savoia S.21 papercraft, and Thunderbird 1 and Thunderbird 5 papercrafts.

Blogger's Choice Awards

We'll it's that time of the year where awards are given to the good, the bad, and just plain old weird blogs. There is the sort of like a peoples' choice blogger awards being held at the Postiecon event in Orlando, Florida on June 2, 2007, in which the blogosphere can vote for their favorite and least favorite blog sites. If you're a competitive individual that likes to compare ranks and ratings with your friends or even othe peoples blogs, then this is just the thing for you. Just make sure that you have a ton of traffic on your site and also a very supportive base wouldn't hurt. One of our readers just emailed me and mentioned that she nominated yours truly for the "Best Educational Blog" category (made me laugh:) well, thanks, I guess, I don't know about "educational" because most of the things I talk about you probably knew it already. I've looked at the categories but I can't seem to put a finger on where I fall - well maybe Paperkraft is unique and there's no word to describe us. So go visit the site, check it out a bit, if you see a category that fits one of your favorite or your very own blog, go for it, you never know - you might just win. You can also cast votes for others that have already been nominated. This contest is sponsored by Payperpost.

Book Recommendation - Papercraft Zoo

You've probably seen most of the cute papercraft models featured here like this Corgi, or this giraffe, and even this other dog, they were all created by Kei Goto from the revered KeiCraft Papercaft Studio in Japan. We seldomly see this finely crafted and simplistic style of papercrafts here in the US, and rarely do they sell these on the popular online bookstores - unless you go look for it on some specialty store and wouldn't mind paying extra on oversees shipping. So when I found out that Kei's bestselling book, "Papercraft Zoo", has been made available again here in the US through Amazon.com, I've decided to personally recommend this and insist that beginners and collector's alike should not miss this one and buy a copy of it while it's available locally. The papercrafts on this book are easy to assemble and the price is very much affordable. Follow the link on the bottom of this post to go directly to it's Amazon page.

Paper Transformed

If your anywhere near Escondido, California - here's a unique paper exhibit at the Mingei International Museum (North County) that's comprised of two similar paper art forms. "Origami - The Art of Paper Folding" on the first floor - has dinosaurs, animals, and other origami objects which was made by a group of 25 artists and the second one is called "Crowning Glory", located on the second floor, it's filled with 250 elaborate hats made out of brown paper bags from Hawaiian artist, Moses. The museum is also giving free demonstrations on Saturdays to learn simple origami and the exhibit will run through July 21, 2007.

Pornogami

Origami, the Japanese art of paper folding has long been a family oriented past time, from the young ones all the way to the young once. But recently, a new style has branched out geared primarily for the adult practitioners of origami. Marc Kirschenbaum, 37 yr. old native New Yorker and Master Origamist has started doing Pornogami, yes that's right, Pornographic Origami. Although sexual material in the 3D paper model world has been around for a while, it's not that very common in origami because origami purists would like to keep it G-rated. Marc has done pornogami for Playboy (vagina) and Maxim (copulating bunnies) out of dollar bills, and is a board member of OrigamiUSA.
